After we've given our lives to Christ, it's not uncommon to experience some tough days. I can think back to some times since coming back that were in some ways even harder. Let me explain... When we're not living for God, we can get used to walking in darkness. We sort of adapt to a deep down sadness, without even realizing it. But then we come into this new life in Christ. Once you’re walking in the light, you’re a child of God, living in opposition to Satan’s plans. So, what does Satan do? His first scheme is usually to get you discouraged and make you think that God has forgotten you. If he can get you feeling discouraged, then the next thing he does is make you feel like life before God was better. So now that you are vulnerable, he brings a temptation your way.
You need to recognize the enemy’s schemes! Don’t be surprised when he tries to discourage you. Fight against him with the word of God!
You’ll see in the verses below, how Jesus had to stand against Satan.
Matthew 4:1-8, 10-11 NLT
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’ ” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your God.’ ” Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the LORD your God and serve only him.’ ” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.”
John 10:10 NIV
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
1 Timothy 6:12 NIV
“Fight the good fight of the faith…”
Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
