Welcome to Day 2 of your week of devos (devotionals) as you begin your walk with God.
There’s nothing worse than knowing that a lot of the situations we find ourselves in are our own doing in the first place. And the guilt that goes with thinking about all the awful things we’ve done can be heartbreaking. You need to know that there can be relief for your soul. When you come to realize what Jesus did on the cross for you, it will begin to set you free from your past. Over the years I have battled with those same condemning thoughts, but I’ve found that when I just take a good look at the cross - the place where Jesus washed every one of my sins away - I feel free once again.
Today I’m going to have you read a few really powerful verses that talk about this truth. But first, I think it’s important for you to read an account of Christ’s crucifixion. I encourage you to forget any previous impressions you’ve had about it. Grab hold of the fact that He did it for you. Think about each and every act that brings you guilt and shame being erased by what Jesus did on the cross.
Luke 23:32-33, 39-43 NLTTV
“Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with him. When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.
One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.””
Colossians 2:13-15 NLT
“You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”
